Baptism for 6th Graders 2020

Baptism Time!

  • A number of 6th graders are getting baptized 4pm Lord's Day June 14th!
    • Some are home; others in the swimming pool/backyard of the Shau's:
      • Karina Wang at her home
      • Solomon Chang at the Shau's
      • Caleb Lin at the Shau's
      • Patrick Heydinger at the Shau's .
  • Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/96923423923 (the same one as the past 6th graders get-togethers)
    • We use the same Zoom meeting for all these ones. We will baptize them one by one in the same Zoom meeting, even though they are not all physically together.
  • See further details, especially related to the health measures, for the in-person baptism in the Shau's in the section further below.
  • We encourage you to read the sections below on the Basic Principles and Practical Guidelines, especially
    • If you are concerned with the safety of their baptism w.r.t. the present pandemic situation, or
    • If you are family of a 6th grader considering his/her baptism, or
    • If you would like to witness in person the baptism of a 6th grader.

Basic Principles

  • Do not delay once a person genuinely receives the Lord (Mark 16:16; Acts 8:36-38; Acts 22:16; Matt.3:15).
    • It is perfectly okay to baptize a 6th grader who has received the Lord in his/her own home if there is a proper believer in the same living unit to baptize him/her into both the name of the Triune God (Matt.28:19) and into the Body of Christ (1 Cor.12:13; cf. Acts 10:47-48).
    • In such cases, there is no health concern because of the pandemic for delay.
  • Obey government orders (Rom.13:1) for shelter-in-place against the present pandemic.
    • Do note that Santa Clara County revised the order effectively on June 5th to allow outdoor swimming, ceremonies, and religious services for up to 25 people with proper social distancing and protective measures.
  • Exercise all due diligences to stay safe and healthy in the present pandemic for our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor.6:19-20; cf. 1 Cor.3:16-17) and members of the Body of Christ (1 Cor.6:15-17).
  • Provide a way for the saints to participate, to witness and to rejoice together, e.g. via Zoom. After all, their baptism is both for their personal salvation and for the Body of Christ (1 Cor.12:13).

Practical Guidelines

In the present situation with the pandemic, we should observe the guidelines below following the principles stated above.
  • In all cases, please arrange a way for the saints to participate, e.g. via Zoom.
  • If one is being baptized home indoors, only people in the same living unit should be present in person.
  • If one is beging baptized outdoors, e.g. in a swimming pool, or open waters,
    • Up to 25 people is permitted by the County Order, but we advise to keep the number minimum - just the family, the brother(s) to baptize them, and those most directly involved in their salvation etc.
    • No one who is specifically at risk of spreading the virus should be present in person (even if family!): one with any of the following
      • exhibiting repiratory symptoms, or any other known potential COVID-19 symptons.
      • known to be exposed in a situation with likely spread of COVID-19.
      • Specifically, we ask no one to come in person who have participated in any gathering in the past two weeks, indoors or outdoors, in which not ALL parties were observing ALL the orders of CDC, of California Health Department, and of Santa Clara County w.r.t. the pandemic.
    • All should wear face covering, with the only exception being the person being baptized. He/she should still wear face covering before getting into water and after changing.
      • Specifically, the brothers who baptize him/her should wear face covering even during the baptism.
    • All should observe social distancing (6 feet) at all time, except among those of the same living unit.
    • All common touch areas, specifically the changing room/area, should be disinfected beforehand and between change of occupacy by persons of different living units.
